It's that time of year when the kids are back in school and the weather is a little more tolerable :) It's a busy time of year for many photographers as the incoming seniors rush to get their senior pics taken. This is a shot of Kayleigh from our shoot this past week. You can see more of them on my website at http://www.amandakoehler.com/ . Be sure to check out the video, too!

I've been working on some product shots for a friend of mine. Joann is getting ready to launch her gourmet brownie business. She's currently selling them locally, and getting her website ready for online ordering. These are some of the most awesome brownies I've ever eaten! This is one of the product shots I've done for her so far - stay tuned for more information in the coming months!

Every once in awhile I'll take what I think is a *great* shot and not be entirely satisfied with something in post-processing. This is where I am able to draw on my skills in post-processing. When in Baltimore a few months ago, I took this shot and really liked it. I liked the angle of the boats, and how the cloud pattern drew one's eye into the scene. In post-processing, I thought it was less than stellar and began trying different effects before settling on an infrared version. While not necessarily suitable for all shots, I definitely feel it made this particular shot more interesting.

September 1, 2008

Happy Labor Day to all of you! It's hard (for me at least) to believe it's September. Summer always seem to pass all too quickly. While most people were probably having an end of the season cookout, I spent some time at the Maryland State Fair - specifically at the track! I don't know a *thing* about betting, but I do like to shoot the horses (with a camera, of course!). Today was no exception. I really like to try to capture the speed of the horses, the expressions on the jockey's faces and the tension involved between the riders. I also find that my varied photographic subjects help me in all aspects of my work and help me to pull alot of elements together. Being able to "stop action" on a racetrack allows me to also do so when I'm shooting weddings, events, and portraits and need to capture fleeting moments or expressions.

Congratulations to Kate and Joe, who were married on May 1st at Waverly Mansion in Ellicott City. I love to shoot weddings - everyone is happy and spontaneous! Kate and Joe were alot of fun to work with - both of them are so obviously in love with each other. These are just a few of my favorite and fun shots I took for their wedding.
